Top Coffee Shops on Martha’s Vineyard to Work From
Marnely’s Top Coffee Shops on Martha’s Vineyard to Work From
Running a marketing agency on an island means our “office” often looks like a cozy café corner, a patio table, or a spot tucked into the bustle of Main Street. Coffee shops have always been part of Shored Up Digital’s story; when we launched, we began meeting clients at local cafés, and to this day, we still find inspiration (and caffeine) in these spaces.
Below are my top picks for places to work from on Martha’s Vineyard, each with its own flavor, vibe, and community spirit. And yes, all of them have Wi-Fi available (password-protected or open network, just ask!) though I often connect using my hotspot.
Rosewater Market & Takeaway – Edgartown, open year-round
Rosewater holds a special place in our story; it’s where we started taking meetings when Shored Up Digital first launched. The coffee program is excellent, proudly serving Chilmark Coffee Co., roasted right here on the island. With its friendly staff and welcoming energy, Rosewater is a natural gathering space for creatives, locals, and visitors alike.
Best for: client meetups and morning inspiration in Edgartown
Pro tip: grab a breakfast sandwich with your latte, they are one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches!
Waterside Market – Vineyard Haven, open year-round
Waterside Market is as central as it gets in Vineyard Haven. With indoor tables and outdoor seating right on Main Street, it’s a great spot to tuck in with your laptop and stay fueled with their hearty menu. The mix of locals and travelers makes it a lively but productive atmosphere.
Best for: working mid-day with a full lunch, which I normally need!
Pro tip: the outdoor seating has heaters in the fall and winter, making it a cozy option!
Aalia’s – Oak Bluffs, open seasonally
My go-to drink of choice here is the cardamom whole milk cortado, a perfectly spiced pick-me-up for when the emails start feeling like I want to through my laptop into Oak Bluffs Harbor. Aalia’s has a great playlist, friendly staff, and some of the best people-watching on the island. Sitting on the railing outside with your laptop, you’ll feel both focused and connected to the energy of Oak Bluffs.
Best for: short, productive bursts with a side of inspiration
Pro tip: order the cortado and thank me later; must not miss their breakfast sandwich on a croissant, it’s the most indulgent way to start your day but the side of hash browns will remind you that life is worth living, no matter how many times you have to remind your clients that no, you cannot post a PDF on Instagram.
Cozy Corner Café – Edgartown, open year-round
The name says it all: this is one of the coziest work spots in town. With its warm atmosphere, the space feels collaborative and welcoming, almost like you’re working alongside friends. It’s an easy place to settle in and make progress while enjoying really solid coffee.
Best for: long stretches of writing or project work
Pro tip: grab a window seat if you can, it’s the best spot to settle in; but they do have some great couch seating, if you find yourself capable of balancing your laptop and hot coffee at the same time.
Behind the Bookstore – Edgartown, open seasonally
This café is more than a coffee shop, it feels like family. The staff is always warm and welcoming, and the coffee program is outstanding. Even on rainy days, you can sit outside under their tented seating and stay dry. It’s the perfect mix of calm and community.
Best for: mornings when you want to feel inspired by the people around you, but note that if you get TOO distracted and know a lot of people in Edgartown, this might not be the place you can get a ton of work done. I myself will turn my back to the flow of people to be able to concentrate, ha!
Pro tip: don’t skip the baked goods, they are SO delicious - particularly if you ask for the chocolate croissant warmed up.
Martha’s Vineyard has no shortage of great coffee shops and there are plenty missing from this short list, but these are the places where we’ve had meetings, built client strategies, written proposals, and found inspiration with every cup. If you’re working remotely, traveling for business, or just looking for your new favorite spot, each of these coffee shops offers a little something special. Let me know in the comments if you have any favorites! - Marnely
