Martha’s Vineyard Based Organizations You Can Support Online

Screen Shot 2020-12-01 at 5.19.58 PM.png

It’s Giving Tuesday and if you’re in a position to give our Martha’s Vineyard based non-profits and community organizations, we’ve rounded up a list of some of those Island organizations that mean the most to us, that you can easily support and donate to online, today and everyday. If you have the means please put your money where your heart is this holiday. And don’t forget to show these organizations some love on social by following their accounts, engaging with their content, and sharing their mission with your friends!

It's time to rally support for Martha's Vineyard organizations that play crucial roles in our community. From healthcare access to education and environmental initiatives, these groups are the backbone of our island. Donating on this day is a chance to bolster their efforts and ensure essential services reach those who need them most. Let's unite in giving back and shaping a brighter future for Martha's Vineyard.

The Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite to benefit The Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club

This beloved holiday tradition is still going strong in 2020, with teddies still popping up around town, but we are so missing the chance to cuddle with these adorable stuffies at the Harbor View Hotel. Point B Realty has pivoted and made some fun new changes to the traditional Teddy Bear Suite festivities, and their commitment to fundraising is stronger than ever. This year Point B will make a 50% match to all online donations up to $10,000.

2023 Update: The Teddy Bear Suite will take place at the Faraway Hotel this year during Christmas in Edgartown!

The Red Stocking Fund

Recently, we helped bring the Red Stocking Fund online with a brand new website here. Traditionally the application process for families to submit their need was a paper heavy process with a lot of in-person contact between the organization, donors, recipients and community members. This year we helped them streamline the process entirely online and set up online donations too. The pandemic has resulted in more Island families needing their assistance to help provide a happy holiday for their children, and we’re proud to have been a part of the process.

2023 Update: The Red Stocking Fund is hard at work making magic behind the scenes to bring every kid on island joy during the holidays!

Island Food Pantry

Another previous Shored Up Digital client, Island Food Pantry, has worked extra hard this year to ensure all Island families that need access to food have it. The pandemic has meant an extreme strain on their resources and a significant increase in the families they feed. Please consider a donation to this incredible cause that has done so, so much for the Island community in 2020.

2023 Update: Island Food Pantry joined forces with Island Grown Initiative and now they both work together to feed the island!

Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation

One of the things we love the most about Martha’s Vineyard is our beautiful open spaces and protected lands and properties. Our clients at Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation work hard to conserve hundreds of acres of precious Martha’s Vineyard and this year they announced their intent to purchase Squibnocket Pond Reservation in Aquinnah, one of the most important and ecologically diverse habitats in New England. Now you can help them meet their fundraising goal and you can double your donation thanks to a generous matching grant from Hansjörg Wyss and the Wyss Foundation.

2023 Update: Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation, in partnership with the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission, aims to conserve 167 acres of Pimpneymouse Farm on Chappaquiddick. Read more herefsmeadow.org/news-updates/pimpneymouse-farm/.

The Martha’s Vineyard Times

The MV Times is not a non-profit but it does rely on community support and it’s an organization that means a lot to us. Fun fact we met at the MV Times when Angela was the Calendar editor and Marnely was her trusty food writer, so the Times will always have a special place in our hearts. The pandemic has severely affected local news organizations and the advertising revenue they rely on, but our need for up-to-date, accurate local news reporting remains as strong as ever. If you’re not already subscribed consider a subscription to the MV Times today, as well as our other local news agency the Vineyard Gazette.

MARTHA’S VINEYARD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

We are fangirls of the Chamber of Commerce. Full disclosure they are clients of ours, and we are paying Chamber of Commerce members. The Chamber has given us a tremendous amount of support and our affiliation has paid off leaps and bounds through referrals and networking. We recommend the Chamber to all of our small business clients, as they work tirelessly to support local businesses on Martha’s Vineyard, while (safely!) promoting Island tourism. Which you can imagine has been an extremely challenging order these last several months... If you’re a small business owner on Martha’s Vineyard and you are not a member (and you have the means to join!) please do it. You’ll be giving back to yourself tenfold and the other local businesses that create the unique fabric of our Island community.

The Edgartown Board of Trade (EBT)

Another beloved social media and website design client of ours, Visit Edgartown/EBT, is looking for some extra help right now to support their member businesses, by way of the Great Edgartown 50/50 Raffle. Now through December 10 you have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to help benefit Edgartown’s 2020 economic recovery. Your money goes to a good cause to help support local small businesses AND you get a chance to win half the pot, that’s a win/win.

2023 Update: The raffle still promotes economic growth in Edgartown and now allows a lucky winner to also win big!

Here’s a list of several other local organizations we support and appreciate, that make it easy for anyone to contribute online.
